A Girl’s Guide to Spring Skincare

After the long winter season, we can’t wait for the warmth and vibrant colors of spring. The lack of sunlight and Vitamin D, piles of homework and to-do lists, and cracked skin and dry hair of the cold months leave us all craving rejuvenation. Spring is filled with fun vacations, powering through the last of the semester, and prepping for June weddings. Just like exercise is important for a healthy body, skincare is essential for keeping your complexion happy and glowing once spring rolls around. Here’s a few of my tried-and-true favorite products:

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

Don’t let the low price of this product fool you into suspecting bad quality. For a great value, this gentle wonder serum shrinks your pores, can heal breakouts, and also leaves a great base for applying makeup without clogging your skin. It will make an excellent addition to your morning and/or night routine.

Tula Hydrating Day and Night Cream

During my first year of college, I decided to invest in a moisturizer for the first time. I selected the popular Neutrogena Hydroboost. Despite its rave reviews, it was a serious disappointment. I had never seen a product dry out my skin so fast. As it left my skin parched and flaky, I was continually prompted to purchase and apply more and more. The problem was that I didn’t do my research. When I finally did, I found this miraculous moisturizer by Tula that is worth every penny and all the hype. In Tula’s case, money truly is a function of quality. This moisturizer seamlessly blends into your skin and seeps deep into your pores to cleanse and hydrate without creating cake-like coverage when combined with cosmetics.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Scrub

If you struggle to create a matte lip without it peeling or looking bumpy, then this product will change your life. This lip scrub exfoliates all the dead skin that builds up from the layers of chapstick we all use to save our perfect pouts. The agave restores moisture to the lips while the sugar leaves them smooth and supple. Added bonus: the ingredients are safe if you accidentally ingest them. Pair this scrub with cocoa butter Vaseline or Honest Tinted Lip Balm for best results.

Finishing Touch Flawless Razor

I can not promote this product enough. Not only does this razor painlessly and smoothly shave off that pesky, despised peach fuzz, but by doing so it allows your skin to fully absorb the benefits of your favorite moisturizer and sunscreen so that your pores don’t dry out as easily. It also is shaped like a lipstick tube, so no one will judge you if you have to clean out your purse.

Collagen

Collagen is the holy grail that’s missing from your vitamin mix. It’s no longer only reserved for middle-aged women hesitant to try Botox. Collagen is for anyone who wants to combat aging via renewed skin production. I know flaky dead skin is something every woman struggles with when applying makeup or facing longer hours of sunshine. If everyday beauty routines are not your thing, consider this natural remedy for your AM regimen.

Lush Beauty Cup o’ Coffee Mask

when you’re ready to ditch the single, prepackaged face masks in the beauty section of Target, your first stop should be Lush Cosmetics to pick up a container of this gem. It’s one of the best face masks for cleansing + exfoliating, and container size provides enough product for multiple uses. The change in temperature and humidity can wreak havoc on your skin and accelerate new cell generation, so this product will wipe you clean of dead cells while also keeping your skin hydrated and cleansed.
