While summer 2020 has yet to grace us with its “song of the summer,” there are no shortage of great reads to pick up right now. We’ve rounded up three of the best books that are both interdisciplinary and newly released!

Fortitude: American Resilience in the Era of Outrage By Dan Crenshaw

Ever since I listened to Joe Rogan host Dan Crenshaw on his podcast, I knew I had to pick up his new book, Fortitude. The former navy SEAL and present-day Texas Congressman writes an incredible narrative that focusses on personal responsibility, toughness, and differentiating the trivial from the meaningful. As an American, this is a book that reignites your spirit and invigorates your soul to push forward through collective and personal adversities.

Rodham by Curtis Sittenfield

This is a story of what could have been if Hillary Clinton hadn’t married Bill. No matter your stance on Hillary Clinton, Rodham is a worthwhile read. Curtis Sittenfeld takes liberty in weaving such a delicate story with both truths and assumptions, and she has done so brilliantly. I cannot put this novel down— but fair warning, there are some R rated scenes I could have lived without. I think this is the book many will be talking about this summer. Put it on your list, no matter your political affiliation.

The Decadent Society: How We Became the Victims of Our Own Success by Ross Douthat

If you’re interested in reading an interdisciplinary and measured take on our society’s current climate, look no further. New York Times columnist Ross Douthat weaves together statistics and reason to argue a sound timeline of American culture since the Space Race, and offers explanations for the political stalemate and stagnation to which we’ve become accustomed. This thought-provoking book provides answers to the questions we have not been asking. It’s an academic read, but a compelling and well-researched one at that.
