TC Halloween Costume Guide

By Chase and Anabella

Halloween is one of the few holidays a year in which people can poke a little political fun at each other without fear of whining. The last few years have provided plenty of content for politically oriented Halloween ensembles, and we couldn't be more excited to see how creative conservatives get this year. From costumes using a MAGA hat as a prop to full-on DIY garb, we got you covered.

Look in Your Closet

For a cute and easy take on Halloween, dress up as one of your favorite members of the former first family. Throw on an elegant tweed dress, a pair of pointed-toe heels, and a MAGA hat, and voila— you have transformed yourself into Melania or Ivanka Trump. Of course, this costume allows for many variations; just check out some inspo from our Melania's Best Looks article.

All in Good Humor

A blonde men's wig, a lot of fake tan, and your dad's navy suit (don't forget the red tie)… and you can be President Trump! For some extra spice, add a MAGA hat, a Diet Coke, or carry around a McDonald's bag for the night (or even stay true to character and end the night here). We hear his order is two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fishes, and a large chocolate milkshake, if you are really going for accuracy. Still iconic and easily recognizable, this costume is a good laugh and ode to an iconic Republican president.

A Joke That Never Gets Old

While it's been done before, this costume's components can be found at any party store if you are in a jam for a last-minute costume party. The old "Hillary for prison" mantra has a new spin applicable to any of your least favorite Democrats. Throw on an orange prison jumpsuit and a mask of your leftist of choice (we suggest Kamala). There are too many unappealing  politicians to choose from these days.

A Bit of DIY

A low slicked bun, a white dress, and a little red fabric paint— inspired by the most ridiculous met gala moment: AOC in her "Tax the Rich" Dress. We suggest phrases from our favorite memes such as "eat more chicken," "taxation is theft," or get a little creative and come up with your own. Extra points if your slogan is hypocritical.

Feeling Bold

How could we write a costume idea piece in 2021 without throwing a bone to our most problematic first son: Hunter Biden. This look is fabulously simple. All that is needed is a pair of tighty whities, a scarf, a cigarette, and a finger paint canvas. Bonus points if you appear slightly out of it and fall asleep in random places around the party.
Scary

If you truly want to dress up as something as old and scary as the crypt keeper, you might want to channel Madam Speaker Nancy Pelosi. You'll need a pink business ensemble, a full (and I mean full) face of makeup, a mask that you never put on, and a pint of ice cream. Of course, the look will be complete once you've had a cup of spiked punch or two. The caught-in-the-act maskless Pelosi in a San Francisco hair salon, complete with a robe and hair rollers, would also do the trick.

The Not So Good Doctor

If you're looking to pose as Dr. Fauci (a poser himself), here are a few things you’ll need to complete the costume. If you wear glasses, now is the time to break them out instead of contacts. Throw on a button-down and at least eight masks. There isn't much to this costume - that's about as creative as this old liberal gets, but if you want to bring props, you can use a baseball or even set your phone wallpaper as a selfie to capture Fauci's self-absorbed persona.

The "Not A Costume" Costume—

Here are a few costume ideas for those in a bind or who just aren't that into dressing up for Halloween.

The booster shot: walk around as is, but carry a glass bottle with a DIY sign labeled “23760th booster vaccine” on it. Sadly, this is super self-explanatory.

The border: For a casual costume that you don't need much to pull off, simply pick up a "we're open" sign and wear it as a necklace. Now you're our southern border!
