Get Glowing

One thing that is tried and true and will have you exuding confidence is rocking glowing, hydrated skin all year round. Healthy-looking, glowy skin has become quite the craze, with brands like Glossier dominating the skincare industry. But in order to attain this no-makeup makeup look that has everyone obsessed, you must commit to a routine and stay consistent. The key to great skin isn’t in coverup— it’s in prevention and maintenance. While sleep masks can do wonders, nothing reverses damage and aging, like finding and sticking to a solid routine.

While we’re strong proponents of glamorous moments and always putting your best foot forward, nothing screams that you take good care of yourself more than a fresh, polished face and not needing to cake on the foundation. Below are a few tips on how to get your skin so glowy that your friends will be asking you for your skincare routine in no time.

Drinking Water

Though products like Dior Lip Glow have gained a cult following for good reason, if you aren’t hydrated, your lips will likely still dry out. Part of taking care of ourselves is how we fuel our bodies. This means drinking a lot of water. Not only will it show in your lips, but it will also show in your skin. If drinking water is a pain, try adding a squeeze of lemon or buying a chic water bottle to persuade you.

Exercising

Elle Woods said it best, “Exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy. Happy people don't kill their husbands!” Happy people also glow from a mile away. Getting a good sweat in will jump-start your day, remove toxins, and release endorphins. Your body will thank you, and so will your mind. No matter how many products you splurge on, sometimes nothing works quite like a hike in nature or a pilates class with your best friend.

Finding a Facialist

One benefit to the rise in social media use is the rise in social media use by licensed professionals of all fields. Information and tips are at our fingertips. If you can afford to splurge on a facial from someone you trust, by all means, take advantage of that! For all of the girls on a budget, I would recommend hopping on Instagram, Youtube, or even TikTok to check out what the skincare gurus have to offer. You can also try your hand at an at-home facial (stay tuned for our guide on mastering the at-home facial, coming soon!)

Taking Off Your Makeup

Going to bed with your makeup on is wrong for so many reasons! You want to wake up ready to take on the day, and you don’t do this by looking in the mirror only to remember the one too many gin and tonics you had last night. The ultimate test of commitment to your skincare routine is doing it even when it’s absolutely the last thing on your mind. Make washing your face before you go to bed as big of a priority as brushing your teeth. Your future self will thank you! Instead of reaching for your makeup removing wipes, we suggest adding an oil-based cleanser or balm to your routine before using your facial cleanser. It feels more luxurious and isn’t as abrasive.

Exfoliating is Your Friend

Exfoliating is often either completely ignored or overused in a routine. We should treat exfoliating as a bi-weekly treat instead of being a part of our daily routines. Face masks are a fun and satisfying way to exfoliate or moisturize your skin, depending on what it needs, without rupturing your skin barrier or drying it out. Certain chemical exfoliants are also highly regarded in the skincare industry and, when used correctly, can completely transform hyperpigmented and uneven skin tones.

It’s All About the Products, Products, Products!

Picking from a bestseller page off of Sephora or Violet Grey is daunting to anyone— especially if you are in desperate need of a new skincare routine but have no idea where to start. Sometimes products fool you into thinking they’ll do the trick, so you should air on the side of keeping it simple— having a hydrating cleanser, vitamin c serum, facial oil, and killer eye cream are a good place to start. Thankfully, the girls at The Conservateur are obsessed with all things skincare. We’ve experimented with so many different brands that we have found our ride or die products that never fail to leave us glowing. Once you have your skin looking optimal, there is no need for a ton of makeup. We suggest opting for a sunscreen with a glowy tint, a cc cream instead of foundation, highlighter, and a glossy lip moment. If you still feel uneasy about choosing the right products for you, stores like Blue Mercury have super helpful staff who can help you find the right product and give you samples to try.
