The Valentine’s Day Guide for Him

By Jayme Chandler Franklin

Originated from the Christian tradition of the Feast of Saint Valentine, February 14th is dedicated to celebrating love. While Valentine’s Day has become commercialized — from sweetheart candies to cupid cutouts — the holiday is fundamentally about romance.

Feminists have misconstrued what women actually want out of dating. Despite what feminists purport, women desire traditional masculinity and chivalry. We want men to make the first move, hold the door open, and pay the bill at the end of the date.

Valentine’s Day should reflect the same intentionality.

To all the husbands and boyfriends, it’s time to plan for February 14th. Here’s how to create the perfect Valentine’s Day for your beauty.

Buy a bouquet…

You don’t want to show up empty handed to your date! Whether you’re shopping at a local florist or ordering online, skip the red roses, carnations, and baby’s breath. Instead, look for pastel-colored roses, peonies, tulips, or orchids. While we always recommend shopping local, if you’re in a pinch, millennial startups like Fresh Sends, FLOWERBX, and Urban Stems ship tasteful flower arrangements nationally. If you’re looking to splurge, order a box from Venus et Fleur. These luxury roses are specially preserved to last over a year.

Something special for your special someone…

While love is the gift that keeps on giving, diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Jewelry is a sentimental and special gift, because every time she wears it, she will think of you. Keep scrolling to see our selection of jewelry she will be sure to love.

Put it in writing…

In the digital era, there is nothing more meaningful or timeless than a handwritten note. While a text or Instagram post is cute, a handwritten letter beckons special attention and intimacy. Make every word count, because trust us, she’ll keep your card forever!

It’s a date…

More important than flowers, cards, and gifts is spending meaningful time together. While she probably plans most of your outings, Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to surprise her. When planning your date, you can never go wrong with something sentimental. If you both loved your first date spot, why not take a walk down memory lane? Want to think outside the box? Try taking her somewhere unexpected and try a new activity. Or keep it simple, stay in, and cook her dinner. Ultimately she will appreciate your thoughtfulness the most.

Valentine’s Day is all about showering your special someone with love. Whether you’ve been married for 25 years or you started dating a few months ago, you now have the tools and advice to make her Valentine’s Day the best one yet.
