Red Lips for the Holidays

TC girls love any excuse to wear a red lip— whatever the season or event — but the holidays are especially fitting for red. Whether it’s burgundy or ruby, every shade of red lipstick is perfect for celebrating the holiday season. Red lips dress up any look and are timeless— think 50’s Hollywood glamour and 90’s supermodels. A pop of color goes a long way, and a red lip will always make you stand out from the crowd. There is never a better time to go full glamour than the holiday season!

Before you even start thinking about what color or shade you’re going to sport, you need to start by exfoliating. Your lips are technically skin and, just like your face, need a little TLC in the dead-skin-removal department. If your lips are drying out, or you’re getting an uneven application, try using your face exfoliant or an toothbrush (sounds crazy, but works great)!

With red lips, the application is everything. Red lips look best with a simple cat eye, a shimmery eyeshadow, and don’t forget to wear bronzer since a stark red can easily wash your face out. A word of caution, red lips are bold and look best on full lips since they garner a lot of attention. For those who aren’t endowed with the biggest lips, a good lip-liner can go a long way! When applying a red lip, I recommend a three-step process using liner, lipstick, and lip gloss. The liner will help define your shape, plump your lips, and make the lipstick application seamless. Then fill in the rest of your lip with your lipstick and finish the look with a fresh coat of gloss. Lipstick can often dry out your lips, so lipgloss is an essential step for me whenever I’m rocking a bold red!
