Mastering the Cat-Eye

Cat eyes are a popular yet surprisingly difficult look to master. From finding the perfect curve to making sure the symmetry is set, they’re a struggle— but a challenge well worth it if done correctly. For anyone looking to change up their daily makeup routine, a cat eye is a fun way to draw attention to your eyes and add a little flair to your look.

Playful, yet sultry, a cat eye can be worn day or night. For a day look, I like simply using liquid eyeliner and starting from the middle of my eye. I run the liner along my lash line and extend it out at the corners. I finish my eye makeup with mascara by focusing the wand at the corners of my eye and brush the mascara outwards.

At night, I like to play up the simple cat eye by going for a smokey eye. I use a darker shadow and extend the shadow off my eyelid on either side for a dramatic look. I also go in with my eyeliner on the button lash line to enhance my eyes and give it more of a sexy almond shape that works perfectly with the cat-eye.

A quick tip, if you’re having trouble mastering this look or can’t get your eyes to match, use tape. Take a piece of tape, stick it on the corners of your eye, and then go in with your eyeliner and/or shadow. It will work like a stencil, and when you pull off the tape, there will be no mess or smudges.

Below are some of my favorite cat-eye looks and products for this fun, sexy look.
