Styling Sweaters
By Jayme Chandler and Isabelle Redfield
As we settle into Fall, I've found myself grabbing a sweater for seemingly every occasion. What I love most about sweaters is their versatility. You can dress them up or down and work them to fit any occasion, from work to brunch, to hanging around your apartment. I love that sweaters come in so many fits and styles this season, and they're so much more than a simple cashmere pull-over. Sweaters are an excellent base for any Fall wardrobe and serve as the perfect garment to layer and pair with almost any bottoms. There's plenty of ways to step up your sweater collection from colors, to fit, to length to design. Below, I have listed some of my favorite styles, as well as some options I love this season.
Go oversized
I love an oversized sweater. It's casual and comfy, yet chic and stylish. My classic, over-sized college sweatshirt is my go-to for chilly, lazy Sundays and quick dashes for coffee.
Pop of color
Sweaters have a reputation for being old, boring, and basic— so do something different and rock a bold color. I'm a massive fan of pink this season, and between the muddled browns and greys that tend to dominate fall fashion, a pop of color is a welcome, refreshing relief!
Wear it as a dress
A sweater dress is the coolest way to change up a classic sweater. Belt your oversized sweater and wear it with a pair of tights or bare your legs with boots.
Button a cardigan
Bring back the 90s with a simple buttoned cardigan. Get a thick, cable-knit cardigan for lounging, and an elegant, cashmere cardigan for a sophisticated, yet functional look.
Layer with jewelry
I love layering my necklaces over my turtleneck. Apart from adding depth and complexity to the overall outfit, the look really lets your jewelry do the talking.
Wear a vintage pull-over
Channel your inner Princess Diana. Grab your dad's college pull-over, throw a blazer over top, and pair with mom jeans. Timeless and stylish.
Crop it
While summer weather is quickly slipping away, a cropped sweater is the perfect way to show off your summer body while staying warm!
Rock a puffed sleeve
Victorian vibes! A puffed sleeve is elegant yet kitschy and cool.
Make it sheer
Sexy yet understated and sophisticated. A sheer sweater will never fail to turn a few heads.
