5 Styling Tips for Every #TCGirl
By Zoe Hardy & Jayme Chandler Franklin
Browsing the racks at your favorite store is a treasured hobby for many of us, but it’s often a frustrating experience. Every brand has different sizing standards. We end up making multiple trips to the dressing room, frantically swapping for something that fits better.
From blazer sleeves dropping to our knees to pants that require a pair of eight-inch heels to prevent the fabric from dragging on the floor, every piece of fine fashion seems to have its own peculiar caveats. Most of the time, our blouses and suits are not one-size-fits-all.
For when you next hit the mall, here are some tips to take with you as fall is in full swing.
Become Besties with a Seamstress
No matter how tall or short you may be, the perfect way to achieve the clean tailored look is to be exceptionally close with your seamstress. Personalizing your most worn pieces makes all the difference. Ask yourself, "Is this dress wearing me, or am I wearing this dress?" Taking the extra step to tailor your wardrobe leaves you with confidence and style.
Walk a Mile in My Shoes
Your heels shouldn't come will blisters. Never feel the need to walk around in tall heels that are so painful that you need to take off by the night's end. A #TCGirl should never waltz out of an event or dinner holding your shoes. Choose a fabulous pair of snazzy pumps that are three inches or less or a pair of loafers. Comfort is often thrown out the window when it comes to shoes but staying chic can be easily achieved with the right pair.
Stay Snatched
Today’s trends range from baggy jeans and oversized t-shirts to bodycon dresses for that snatched look. As fall is here, so too is sweater season. The golden secret to making you look taller is making the right pieces to work for you, not against you. Throw on that oversized knit sweater with a pair of straight leg jeans rather than mom jeans to maintain your body outline. The same works when choosing baggier pants. A sleek, tight long-sleeve is the perfect complement.
Don't Cut Yourself Off
Skip the belt and go with a simple French tuck. Belts often stop the eye in the middle, cutting you into two sections. Dropping the belt will allow the look to flow from head to toe, making you appear taller than you may be. Waist belts are often the way to go if accompanying a dress or tea-length skirt. These emphasize the smallest part of your waist, leaving you looking slimmer and taller.
Simple Patterns
When choosing patterns, it is always best to err on the side of smaller graphics. As striped sweaters are in, opt for a cute pattern that brings a touch of personality to your outfit. A classic plaid blazer will never go out of style.
