Mastering the Fashion of the Masters Tournament

By Peyton Collier

The First Tee

The Masters is more than just a golf tournament; it’s a weekend filled with tradition,  prestige, and elegance. Held at the iconic Augusta National Golf Club, the competition draws celebrities, political figures, fashionistas, and golf enthusiasts from all over the world. For  attendees, it’s an opportunity of a lifetime to be at an event that celebrates athleticism but also Southern high society. Whether you are spectating from the grandstands, socializing in the clubhouse, or hosting your own at-home viewing party, you too can dress on par with one of America's most fashionable sporting events.

Sporty Chic: On-the-Green Style

When it comes to on-the-green style, functionality and fashionable go hand in hand. The Masters is in the springtime in Augusta, so warm weather and sunshine are expected. Think classic Ralph Lauren collars paired with pleated skirts, or a tailored tennis dress. Lightweight fabrics, such as breathable cotton or soft linen, will keep you cool as you navigate the fairways between your seat and a classic Masters pimento cheese sandwich. A flowy sundress is also appropriate for a day of watching the tournament.

When it comes to footwear, opt for stylish yet practical: loafers or sleek white sneakers. Add a touch of flair with a pair of oversized sunglasses or even a Masters straw hat that you can pick up from one of the merchandise booths. Complete the look with minimal gold jewelry, and a hands-free crossbody to keep essentials close while roaming the grounds. Whether you are in the front row at Amen Corner or soaking in the scenery from the grandstands, mastering the on-the-green style is all about effortless sophistication with a nod to Augusta tradition.

Clubhouse Elegance: Elevating Your Look Beyond the Course

As the sun sets in Augusta, the style stakes rise. Whether you are heading to an exclusive clubhouse dinner or a post-tournament cocktail hour, your look should transition as effortlessly as a Masters champion slipping on that iconic green jacket. Think refined feminine silhouettes with a touch of Southern charm — a classy midi dress in a soft pastel, a crisp white blazer over a fitted bodysuit, or a tailored jumpsuit that exudes effortless polish.

Footwear takes a step up here — swap sneakers for chic block heels or ballet flats that balance fancy with ease. Accessories should whisper sophistication, not shout gaudy — a structured clutch, delicate gold jewelry, or a silk scarf tied effortlessly around your neck. A touch of tweed or a classic pearl detail channels Augusta poise without feeling overdone. Whether sipping a cocktail on the clubhouse veranda or mingling at an after-hours event, it’s all about understated luxury with an echo of tradition.

Bringing Augusta Home

Why leave the glamour of Augusta behind when you can bring it into your own home?  Hosting a Masters viewing party is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the tournament. Start with your space — opt for soft green and pink accents, whether it's a linen tablecloth, elegant napkins, or your very own custom Augusta National cups to sip your favorite cocktail.

For an authentic taste of Augusta, consider purchasing a “Taste of the Masters” box, allowing you to savor the iconic Masters menu items from the comfort of your own home. The boxes range in size and offer their most famous dishes ranging from their pimento cheese, pork bar-b-que, egg salad, chocolate chip cookies, and even Masters-branded souvenir cups and coasters. Set the scene with delicate floral arrangements — peonies or roses in soft pinks and whites. Invite guests to dress in their best Masters attire. The key is creating a space where casual comfort meets distinguished grandeur.

The 18th Hole

Mastering the Masters isn't just about the birdies and bogies — it's about honoring a quintessentially Americana institution and its history. There’s no shortage of ways to infuse the Masters’ subtle swankiness into your own wardrobe and home.
