Holiday Party Style Guide
By Jayme Chandler and Isabelle Redfield
Holiday parties are among the most exciting events to dress for. They’re less flamboyant than Halloween but far more opulent than most summer and spring engagements. In short, holiday parties are all about finding your distinct look and style while not overdoing it. The winter season’s chilly weather means layers, and layers mean opportunity. We love pairing the classic holiday colors of red, blue, and green in avant-garde textures and fabrics with bold accessories and glamorous jewelry. When it comes to a holiday party, keep your colors in check, always overdress, and never be afraid to think outside of the box— no one ever remembers a safe outfit!
Wear silk
Soft, comfortable, and chic, silk is sexy and sophisticated. While we love silk for a nice pair of PJ’s, we also love it for a sultry twist on a classic-style monotone dress or an eye-catching blouse.
Make a statement
We’ll admit it— this is a little more out there, but we’re in love with statement sleeves this season. They can add such an interesting dimension to an outfit and do a great job highlighting your physique.
Sparkle in sequins
While all that glitters isn’t gold, a sparkly outfit comes pretty close. We love sparkles for a less traditional, more cosmopolitan look that’s fit for a fun work event or the club after the fun work event.
Velvet is in season
Velvet is the alpha to sparkle’s omega. It’s classic, makes any outfit more texturally interesting, and carries with it the panache of a bygone era. If you can’t tell, we love velvet.
Christmas in colors
Red and green scream holidays. While not always the best idea together, separately, they’re stunning. Regardless of what dress you wear or material you select, a green or red outfit is perfect for the Christmas season.
When in doubt, wear tights
Apart from preventing chilly legs on cold winter nights, tights are one of the sexiest things you can wear— just ask your boyfriend. Tights are also a great way to add some texture and flair to any old outfit.
Festive in feathers
We love the 20’s glam aesthetic of some well-placed feathers in a monochrome outfit. Not only can feathers bring some much-needed depth to simple outfits, they do a phenomenal job mimicking movement, meaning you’ll look extra sexy on the dance floor.
Embellish with earrings
Statement earrings instantly elevate a simple hairstyle from classy to memorable. With a range of styles, colors, and materials, bold earrings can be the most personal and customizable part of your wardrobe, and we love to use them to make our outfits quintessentially ours.
Go big with a bow
You’re the ultimate present at Christmas. Dress the part.
Dress it up with a headband
When you feel like you need to take an outfit down the more traditional road, we’d recommend one of our favorite trips: the headband.
Classic in plaid
A favorite of both Sherlock Holmes and the beauty staff at TC, plaid is one of our most consistent winter go-to’s. It’s charm comes in its versatility. A little plaid is comfortable and cozy, while a plaid suit is professional and straight-cut. The difference is in the details-- find your balance and enjoy.
In love with lace
Sexy but classic, lace is always bound to catch some eyes and add flair to any monochrome look. Timeless yet so fashion-forward, lace is always a TC favorite.
