2023 Fall Fashion Guide
By Jayme Franklin
Farewell to the long, hot, and sticky days of summer, and hello to the crisp, cool, and clear days of autumn. Many say that fall is the best time of year. The weather is perfect, football season is fun, and who doesn’t love Halloween or Thanksgiving? But maybe above all else, fall fashion is what makes this season so special.
While fall is when we bring out the timeless staples, it can also be the time to shop for new styles. Every September, following fashion week, social media buzzes about what’s in or out. If you’re looking to try a new trend, switch up your style, or revamp your wardrobe, TC’s 2023 Fall Fashion Guide has you covered. From trend forecasting to styling techniques to shopping recommendations, it will take your style from basic to “it girl” this fall.
CASUAL CHIC
The casual chic look is the easiest way to elevate your everyday style without overdressing. This season is all about being effortlessly chic. The key to this style is to pair dressier pieces with casual basics. Style a boucle jacket with denim, wear a blazer with ballet flats, or pair a tee with a mini skirt and heels. Be fashion-forward without looking like you tried too hard.
CHERRY RED
We’re not just voting red this year, we’ll be wearing it as well. While a pop of cherry red is trending for fall 2023, the color is timeless. You won’t regret investing in a few red pieces. Add red to your wardrobe through accessories, such as boots, ballet flats, and bags. If you really want to commit, you should acquire a red leather jacket.
CHOCOLATE BROWN
While brown typically isn’t the most popular shade, it’s the most underrated in fashion. If you’re someone who buys everything in black, consider chocolate brown. It’s versatile, and will seamlessly fit into your collection. It gives “it girl” in any outfit.
MENSWEAR
This fall, we’re stealing our boyfriend’s clothes. A masculine-inspired silhouette is very much in vogue. We’re wearing oversized blazers, leather jackets, vests, baggy jeans, and trousers. There is a simple rule to rocking menswear: define your waist while wearing anything oversized. Belt your blazer, tuck your shirt into your trousers, or pair your loose-fitting pants with a crop top. We’re bringing back tomboys this season.
LOUNGEWEAR
This season is all about casual, comfy, and cool. While athleisure has been in for years, we’re swapping our leggings for sweatpants and our biker shorts for tennis skirts. Wearing sweats should not mean looking sloppy, however. Throw a blazer over your hoodie, add jewelry, or wear pair of cool running shoes and crew socks. We’re channeling model off-duty…not Senator John Fetterman.
DENIM x DENIM
While we don’t dig Justin Trudeau, we love a Canadian tuxedo. This fall, we’re bringing back the best of the 90s. Denim on denim is a foolproof way to be the most stylish person on the street. Throw on a denim jacket with jeans and accessorize with a scarf or chunky necklaces. It’s as easy as that!
WESTERN WEAR
While TC champions western wear at all times, we’re excited to announce it’s officially in again this season! If you haven’t invested in a pair of cowboy boots yet, this is your sign. From leather to denim, there’s endless ways to channel your inner cowboy.
WORKER WEAR
We’re paying homage to blue-color and the essential but under-appreciated industries that keep the country running. Inspired by America’s Rust Belt and Heartland, we’re sporting leather jackets, utility skirts, cargo pants, and textured denim.
LOW RISE
It’s official: mom jeans are out. Across denim, trousers, and skirts, low rise is all the rage. Your pants should be lower than Kamala Harris’s poll numbers. Wear your baggy jeans on your hips and pair them with a tight tee or tank for a flattering silhouette. Dress up this look with kitten heels or embrace this edgy aesthetic with Jordans.
ACCESSORIZE
While last year’s clean-girl aesthetic called for simple and understated jewelry, 2023 is all about bold accessories. From chunky necklaces and earrings to colorful scarves, bags, and pins, there’s many opportunities to make a statement.
BOOTS
Boots for fall… groundbreaking! However, not all boots are alike. Follow closely: over-the-knee is out, knee-high is in. Ankle is out, mid-calf is in. To be extra cutting-edge, cop a pair of motorcycle boots. If you’re looking to invest in a timeless style, you can’t got wrong with a pair of tall leather boots.
FLATS
There’s nothing unorthodox about this season’s shoe trends. To be dressier, opt for loafers or ballet flats. For something sporty and casual, New Balances and Sambas are your perfect essential. For a comfy and cozy look, platform Uggs are fully back in style.
