LABOR DAY WEEKEND FASHION

By Alexis Guillory

Labor Day weekend: the bittersweet holiday that marks an end to many favorite things.

Linen sets, white sundresses, mid-day naps, oversized floppy hats, and sunbathing poolside come to a ceremonious close. However, the long weekend is the perfect time to pull out your quintessential summer pieces one more time before fall fashion takes over. Whether you’re celebrating by the beach or up in the mountains, check out these outfit ideas to last you through the summertime sadness.

Go bold in all white. Sundresses and maxi skirts are always a great option to wear from day to night. Brands like Charo Ruiz, Cult Gaia, and Dissh have gorgeous styles that can be worn with flats or sneakers during the day and dressed up with heeled sandals for evening events.

If you’re going for edgy and effortless, ecru-colored jeans with a simple tank or tee creates a base that allows you to bring out your most eye-catching accessories. Khaite, Re-Done, and COS offer great quality, staple pieces that will quickly become your capsule favorites.

It wouldn’t be a summer holiday without two things: denim and our flag. We alert you that both are IN. The momentum behind denim-on-denim has yet to wane, and Ralph Lauren is officially making a comeback. Seamlessly incorporate both elements as you cheers to another sunset on God’s green earth.

If you just aren’t ready to let go of everything you love about the summer, lets talk transitional pieces you can reach for until the temperature drops (which here in Texas probably won’t be until Christmas). The rules of fashion say no white after Labor Day, but they never said anything about ivory, ecru, or eggshell. Simple button-down shirts in neutral tones can be worn a million-and-one ways. Pair them with denim shorts and sneakers for a casual look or with leather pants and a blazer for a night out. They can also be layered with sweaters or vests as we enter fall. Nili Lotan, A.L.C., and The Frankie Shop carry some of my personal favorites. Other pieces like quarter cardigans, wide-leg pants, ballet flats, and denim jackets can be creatively styled in summer, fall, or winter.

Want a little more pep in your step? Pull out that fabulous patterned dress one last time or mix it up with funky, stand-out accent pieces. See our inspiration:

The end of summer can be less than exciting, but we’re looking forward to the new trends of the holiday season. So, soak up the last warm days and let’s get ready for fall, y’all!
